Surreal is an innovative metaverse product that immerses players in a virtual reality world where they can explore, create, and socialize. A complex mixture of web interfaces, utilizing pixel-streaming for large scale live events. It allows brands to bring their ideas to life in a visual way without requiring a large download of asset data like traditional gaming. It is a lot like a traditional video game, with systems for things like achievements, customizable characters, multiplayer minigames and leaderboards, leading it to live here in my games category. I've spent a lot of time writing the systems used at Surreal to work at scale, and to be highly extendable by other developers. Surreal is a platform first, and we've worked with hundreds of developers who utilize our suite of plugins as a launch platform to quickly create their vision.

Gauntlet is a top-down puzzle challenge game designed for mobile devices, combining brain-teasing puzzles with engaging gameplay. Built using Unreal Engine 5, it is currently under active development.

Gameplay Systems

  • Achievements & Stats: Achievements driven by gameplay stats, tracked using Unreal Engines OnlineServices with EOS as the service of choice.
  • Gameplay Ability System: Combat and gameplay mechanics are powered by GAS. A system designed to create multiplayer gameplay, helping to manage the replication of combat and attribute systems.
  • Character Customization: Gameplay unlocked cosmetic items for your character for you to equip, but you can also find temporary items within levels to give you various buffs and abilities.
  • AI: AI Behavior Trees were used to handle combat mechanics, with difficulty in various ways that allow you to master a level at your own pace.
  • Lobbies, Leaderboards and Tournaments: Gauntlet is driven by a robust tournament system made to allow players to compete with custom tournaments.
  • Async Multiplayer: Gauntlet allows you to play against the Ghosts of others who are in your tournament. Play anytime against your friends and watch them succeed or fail.
